How might we improve the diaper change experience for parents?

Diaper Re-Design

Through a partnership between Northwestern University and Procter & Gamble, I worked with the baby care department to conduct user research in relation to baby products, including diapers. The task was to find pain points that parents are experiencing during a diaper change, and find solutions that facilitate a faster and easier diaper change for all.

The outcome of this work reflected the insights of the consumers that were interviewed which consisted of a mixture of parents and non-parents to get a wide array of information and opinions of design features added to the final design.

Consumer Research

In order to gain insights around baby care, and diapers, the project team conducted eight in home visit interviews to fully understand the roll of a parent throughout the day, and their behaviors during diaper changes. From these interviews, a journey map was created that reflected the comments and actions of consumers and helped in the development of first round prototypes.

Prototypes were shown to consumers in a central site visit where they visited the university and participated and interacted with tests designed by the team to illustrate the pain points that parents are having, and attempting to solve for those problems. This round of testing led to initial insights, tensions, and design requirements to be formulated.

The insights, tensions, and design requirements continued to evolve as the design process continued when second round prototypes were tested in a second central site visit.
